Folders in Hotmail

Page history last edited by Suzanne Baschieri 15 years, 9 months ago

Hotmail comes with five standard folders, which cannot be deleted.  For more information on any of the folders, click on any of the blue hyperlinks below.

The Inbox is the folder in which all new emails arrive; unless the email is flagged as spam or you have setup filters. Otherwise, this rule is absolute.

The Junk is the folder in which all new emails perceived by Hotmail to be spam ("junk mail") arrive.

The Drafts folder is where Hotmail automatically saves any unsent messages. This allows you to later return to any unsent emails you saved, finish typing them and send them (or save them, once more, in the Drafts folder.)

The Sent folder contains, by default, all emails sent from your Hotmail account.

The Deleted folder contains all emails that you deleted from any other Hotmail folder, like the Inbox or a custom folder. Emails deleted from within the Junk folder are the exception: these emails are permanently deleted, without going through the Deleted folder.

These are the basic folders in Hotmail.  If you wish to customize and create your own folders, please see the following links:
