Podcasting Tools

To began recording your podcast, you will need:

  • a computer
  • a microphone
  • software 
  • (a video recorder or webcam is option)

 

There are several podcsting tools, some of which are free.  Some of the most well known are below:

Site that allows you to create a videos online. 

  • videos 30 seconds or shorter can be created for free 
  • has options for just creating a single long video, an all access pass, and a business account
  • Videos can then be uploaded to YouTube, embedded in a blog or wiki ,etc.

Audio software for recording audio tracks.  Tracks can then be made into a MP3 file or dropped into many of the video production programs.

  • if this is the only  audio podcasting software you have--it will serve you well in audio production.  

     

 

  TechSmith, the maker of Camtasia, has some very good video tutorials available on their website.  http://www.techsmith.com/learn/camtasia/default.asp

Virginia Tech has created some pages that walk you through creating and designing Camtasia videos.  The entire tutorial can be printed out.

Camtasia is is a software application that can be used to create video podcasts which can then be posted on the Internet or burned to a CD. Camtasia works well with PowerPoint and is versatile yet easy to use and edit.

  • Video up to 15 minutes 
  • Post recording you can add notes and create links 
  • Videos can be uploaded directly to YouTube

  • Tutorial and presentation creation software.
  • Can be used to capture screenshots, add explanations boxes, buttons, titles etc and generate tutorials for users. 

 

 5 Tools Students Can Use to Create Alternative Book Reports from Richard Byrne's Free Technology for Teachers blog post 5/26/13.  In addition to animoto, Byrne refers to several other tools that could be used in podcasting.

 

Once the podcast is recorded, edited, and saved as a standard file format, it can be uploaded on a web page.  Here's whats commonly included on podcast webpages:
